Couples Who Stay Together For A Long Time Usually Have 5 Hobbies They Truly Enjoy Doing
Vitaly Gariev | PexelsIt's normal for couples to feel bored in their relationship, especially if they've been together for quite some time. They get stuck in their daily routines, not making time for one another to do something fun that they both enjoy.
But rather than planning a date night, when couples have certain hobbies they truly like, it lets them bond on a deep level. It lets them establish healthy routines while growing their love, reminding them why they fell for each other in the first place.
When couples are together for a long time, they truly enjoy doing these hobbies with one another
1. Starting or joining a book club

Reading is an excellent way to connect with others, especially a romantic partner, while learning and exploring new worlds and ways of thinking. Too often, people read a book and don't think much of it afterwards.
But by joining or starting a book club, it allows for deeper discussion. People can hear opposing views through healthy dialogue, and it really brings everyone together. It's a true bonding experience.
When couples are in a book club alongside their partner, it allows for a change from everyday thinking and responsibilities. Each partner gets to interact with new people on topics they wouldn't necessarily discuss at home.
So, whether it's choosing the genre of the next book or giving members of the club a specific challenge to discuss the next week, couples who do these things tend to find themselves enjoying spending time with one another.
2. Designating specific nights for creative activities
One or both partners may not be great artists like Leonardo da Vinci or Annie Lee, but doing something creative together can become a really fun hobby that lets people destress and relax. It could be painting or writing, or really any other activity that lets them express themselves.
Perhaps they can take a cooking class together, making fun recipes and then trying them at home. Or, maybe they spend an evening doing a paint and sip event, drawing portraits of one another and laughing about how goofy they look.
They'll get a chance to interact with other people, of course, but it allows them to spend quality time doing something they each enjoy.
3. Volunteering at local charities
Giving back to the community isn't just a gift to the people it can help, but can strengthen a couple's relationship. Though most people tend to give with their wallets, couples who stay together a long time may find volunteering in their local communities incredibly rewarding.
As licensed independent clinical social worker Angela Thoreson explained, volunteering lets people nourish both new and existing relationships and connections.
"One of the best ways to make new friends and strengthen existing relationships is to participate in a shared activity. In many cases, volunteers have diverse backgrounds, which helps expand their social network and allows them to practice social skills with others," she said.
Couples should consider finding a charity they both want to support, and then plan to volunteer for several times a year. They can think of what they like doing together and their skillset, then using those abilities to help others.
4. Dancing together

Not every couple enjoys dancing. Maybe one partner is shy or has no rhythm, or it's just not a very entertaining activity. But dancing doesn't just have to happen at weddings. It can happen right in the living room while no one is watching.
Dancing can be considered an art form, and it's great exercise for the body and mind. But it's definitely more fun when it's with someone else.
Taking a dance class can be an exciting activity for couples. Even if they think they have two left feet, they're still spending time with the person they love most.
Dancing together gets couples out of the house and moving. They can learn new moves to impress each other with, while aiding in their longevity.
5. Training for a marathon or having big athletic goals
Some couples who have been together for quite a long time have made a habit of getting outdoors. Maybe they go for hikes and walks on the weekends, taking in the nature and beautiful environment around them.
But by trying something like training for a marathon, it's a great way to add some excitement to the relationship. After all, training this way takes months, and that time can be spent with one another, truly committing.
According to running coach Angela Rubin, having a partner to run with is a great thing. "I had a good friend... and we would go and do, like, 20-mile training runs together. It would just fly by because we were just chatting about life. In some ways, it was kind of like a therapy session, and getting our endorphins flowing," she explained.
But it also builds that connection and strengthens bonds. As Rubin continued, "My running friends have seen me at my absolute worst. And it builds that bond even stronger because when you're doing a race and you're physically exerting yourself, it comes to this point of being a survivor, but you have those people around you to help support you and experience it with you."
Any physical movement couples can do together will benefit them in the long run. It gets them off the couch and moving their bodies, and running together creates fun conversations.
