People With Low Mental & Emotional Resilience Usually Say 9 Phrases In Casual Conversation
Dzmitryieu Dzmitry | Shutterstock Resilience is a trait people need to work hard to cultivate. Sadly, too many people fail to do this.
Sometimes, it only takes a few words to see how resilient someone is and it shows when they receive bad news or crashing out over some minor inconveniences. What they say can tell you a lot about them. So, if they say any of these phrases, be warned.
Phrases people with low mental and emotional resilience say in casual conversations:
1. 'I can't deal with this'

People who aren't resilient don't know how strong they really are. They're too caught up in the uncomfortable feelings happening now to imagine that things will be better in the future. This is why low resilience people are quick to say, "I can't deal with this!" They want to be strong, but they don't believe they can be.
Mentally and emotionally, they're at their weakest when they say this. Every minor inconvenience feels larger than it actually is. That's why a support system is important, when you
To help buoy them, tey can start by building up a support network or learning from one they already have. According to the American Psychological Association, "Connecting with empathetic and understanding people can remind you that you’re not alone in the midst of difficulties."
Once they start believing in themselves, everything can change for them.
2. 'Why does this always happen to me?'

There's only so much non-resilient people can take. Even when they do their best to stay strong, too many unfortunate mishaps can drive someone who has very little emotional reserve to melting down.
Could they be being dramatic? Yes, but they don't care. Their negativity bias is deeply ingrained. Without adequate levels of resilience, they start seeing themselves as victims and end up stuck in a state of disempowerment.
3. 'It's not fair'

Life can be very hard, no matter how even the most positive people look at it. Some people struggle financially, and others have zero support. But depending on how long they've been tested with these little challenges, those with low resilience can't help but say, "It's not fair."
It doesn't matter how hard life is supposed to be. People with low resilience don't care. If it doesn't work in their favor, they're crashing out. Call them spoiled, but it won't change their mind. If life is slightly inconvenient, they'll complain every time.
4. 'There's nothing I can do about it'

People with low resilience don't know how to take hold of their lives. Maybe they've had friends and family who've always protected them or, on the opposite side of the spectrum, maybe someone made them feel like they're weak and pathetic.
Regardless, because they never developed resilience, they're passive in life. Assuming they're helpless in every situation, these people say, "There's nothing I can do about it."
They might not be able to change the outcome, but this doesn't mean they're helpless. Especially when it comes to stress levels, there are very effective ways to keep it under control. By taking deep breaths, meditating, journaling, and spending time outdoors, less resilient people can, at the bare minimum, develop healthier habits to cope with their stress.
5. 'I give up'

Let's face it, trying isn't always easy. It requires hope. People may say that trying again and again is important, but getting up after failing is low-key humiliating. Especially after pouring their all into something, people with low resilience aren't about to humiliate themselves again. That's why they're quick to say they're ready to give up.
It isn't that they aren't strong enough to try, they just don't want to or they don't believe they have it in them. Because they have probably held this mentality from a young age, it'll take a lot of inner work to get them to change their mentality.
6. 'I shouldn't have to deal with this'

People who lack resilience believe that life should work in their favor and that they're just too good to have to deal with any struggle or bad luck. Call them unrealistic, but if the world isn't bending over backwards to fit their needs, they'll just quit and walk away.
From a young age, things have always worked out for them. They've always gotten everything they've ever wanted. That's why they can't stand it when the tables are turned. Even if others label them as spoiled, in their eyes, they're just refusing to settle for less.
7. 'I don't want to think about it'

Sometimes in life, it feels easier to ignore the uncomfortable things. Sure, it's kinda delusional, but these particular low-resilience people don't care. They want to live in a perfect world where they fear nothing.
In their eyes, they're just being positive and refusing to let in the negative thoughts. As if acknowledging the bad gives it power.
In reality, that couldn't be further from the truth. In life, we gotta acknowledge the bad to get to the good. Especially when it comes to emotions, labeling them as bad or good can actually harm mental health.
That's why it's important to be honest with yourself. Even if it's uncomfortable, it's better to acknowledge what's wrong than dismiss it as negative.
8. 'I always mess everything up'

If there's one thing people who seriously lack resilience they can't do, it's handle criticism. As soon as they mess up, they become the ultimate victim and whine and complain. They quickly take things to the extreme, which is why they love to say, "I always mess everything up."
Once they are less than perfect, expect the waterworks to come flooding in. They can't stand things not going their way. And while others may call them extra, it isn't necessarily their fault. They were raised to believe that eliciting pity was an effective way to keep themselves disempowered.
9. 'I knew this was going to happen'

People who lack emotional resilience can't handle being let down. As soon as they experience a little disappointment, they see it as confirmation that they'll always be the victim and the world will always let them down.
In every situation, they expect the worst outcome. That's why, when something goes wrong, they say, without fail, "I knew this was going to happen."
The truth is that they didn't know. They couldn't have predicted life would go so badly, except that their negativity created more negativity and they only noticed the negativity.
Not only is this mindset unhelpful, it eventually does them harm.
